Exile, Confluence, Fox, 515, Rock Bottom, Peace Tree, Barn Town, Firetrucker, New American, SingleSpeed, Summit, Kalona, Keg Creek, Millstream, Madhouse, Broad Street and Flix Brewhouse!

Wondering what a firkin is? It’s a traditional, small cask-conditioned barrel where beer is naturally carbonated instead of introducing CO2. The result has a much gentler level of carbonation and a rounder mouthfeel. This unfiltered beer can be hazy and shows a slightly more complex flavor and aromatic profile. These smaller barrels may also be infused with additives — like fresh fruits, peppers, vanilla or coffee beans — to bring unique flavors to the beer.

Beer Week

Daily events include activities like organized bike rides, tap takeovers, special tappings, movies, education, meeting brewers, dinners, specials and more! The week also includes the Iowa Craft Brew Festival, where around 60 Iowa breweries, along with a host of regional and national craft breweries, gather in Des Moines to offer beer samples to patrons. One of the most unique aspects to the week is the Des Moines Beer Week Collaboration Beer that Des Moines area brewers create together, which will be available in limited quantities across the metro!

Des Moines Beer Week is organized by a committee of local volunteers that work to bring this fun & exciting event to our community that in turn supports local business and promotes the industry. The committee relies on sponsorships for the expense of printing, promotions, events and more. Contact us by clicking on the button below and learn about the benefits of becoming a sponsor!

The concept of a beer week started with the city of Philadelphia and has expanded to many cities and states across the country. It's a week that celebrates the culture and community of craft beer. The craft beer industry is impacting local economies in a positive way by adding to the culture, encouraging tourism and creating jobs. Participating businesses — including breweries, bars, restaurants, distributors, local organizations and more — have the opportunity to connect with craft beer drinkers through a variety of events and activities.
At this time, the Des Moines Beer Week area includes the city of Des Moines, Iowa, as well as the following surrounding metro communities: Ankeny, Altoona, Clive, Johnston, Urbandale, Waukee, West Des Moines, Adel, Bondurant, Carlisle, Cumming, Dallas Center, Granger, Grimes, Norwalk, Pleasant Hill, Polk City, Van Meter and Windsor Heights.
